Big Blue Fall to Bluefield University

Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University fell to Bluefield University 8-0 and 9-3 on Monday.

After both teams went scoreless to open game one, but the Rams scored two in the second and five in the third to take the 7-0 lead. The Rams added one in the fifth to put the run rule into effect. The lone Big Blue hit came in the fifth inning from a single by JoElna Arnold.

Maggie Mullin started on the mound for the Big Blue and threw two innings giving up two hits, two runs, one walk and one strike out. Kennedy James threw one inning for the Big Blue, giving up six hits and five runs. Taylor Fells closed out the game with two innings, two hits, and one strike out.

The Rams took the 3-0 lead in the top of the second, but Bella Coffman added one for the Big Blue with a homerun to left field in the bottom of the inning. The Rams scored four runs on two hits to extend the lead 7-1. Paige Whittington singled up the middle followed by a double from Madison Roland to bring Whittington home. After the Rams added to their lead 8-2, Coffman hit her second homerun of the game for the Big Blue. The Rams would extend their lead in the sixth to take the 9-3 victory over the Big Blue.

Taylor Fells started on the mound for the Big Blue. Fells threw 4.2 innings and gave up four hits, four runs, six walks and struck out five. Maggie Mullin threw 2.1 innings and gave up two hits, five runs, four walks and struck out one.

The Big Blue will travel to Virginia State University Friday, April 12th with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
