Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State's football team opened their season with a challenging matchup against Winston-Salem State, ultimately falling 34-3 at Mitchell Stadium after a two-hour weather delay.
Danny Dales converted a 25-yard field goal in the first quarter, narrowing the gap to 7-3. However, that would be the only score of the night for the Big Blue, as Winston-Salem State responded quickly with a 56-yard touchdown pass. Winston-Salem State's offense accumulated 302 total yards compared to Bluefield State's 152.
On the defensive side for Bluefield State, standout performances included Jahman McNeil, who led the team with ten tackles, including two tackles for loss. Marcus Young Jr. also contributed seven tackles, while Justin Campbell added 1.5 tackles for loss.
