EMORY, VA – Bluefield State University Football faced a tough defeat on the road, falling to Emory & Henry 40-13 on Saturday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium.
Bluefield State opened the scoring in the first quarter, capitalizing on an interception. Quarterback Christian Solino connected with wide receiver Thomas Lee for a 17-yard touchdown pass, giving the Big Blue an early 7-0 lead. However, Emory & Henry quickly responded with a touchdown of their own to even the score 7-7.
The Wasps gained momentum in the first half, taking advantage of a Bluefield State fumble in the end zone, which resulted in a touchdown. The Big Blue trailed 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Big Blue kicker Danny Dales kept the game within reach, nailing two field goals - one from 34 yards and another from 44 yards - cutting the deficit to 19-13 by halftime.
The Wasps scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to secure the 40-13 victory over the Big Blue.
Bluefield State offense finished with 307 total yards compared to Emory & Henry's 442. Quarterback Solino threw for 77 yards with one touchdown with QB Isiah Teal adding 99 yards.
Jahman McNeil led the Big Blue defense with 12 total tackles, Justin Campbell added a 10 and Marcus Young Jr contributing an interception.
