Bluefield, WV – Big Blue claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over King University (TN) at the Ned Shott Gymnasium.
The match was fiercely competitive, with both teams alternating set wins. Bluefield State took the first set 25-18, but King responded with a 25-22 win in the second. Bluefield State regained the advantage in the third set with a 25-19 win, only for King to force a decisive fifth set by taking the fourth, 25-19. In a tense final set, Bluefield State emerged victorious 19-17 to seal the match.
For King University, Imani Stokes had a flawless performance, recording 14 kills with no errors and hitting an impressive .583. Jannice Lynch added 11 kills, and Gabby Hale directed the offense with 26 assists and three service aces. Despite their strong hitting percentage of .284, King couldn't outlast Bluefield State in the crucial moments of the fifth set.
In the fifth set, the Big Blue faced an early deficit of eight to three. A kill from Big Blue Hale sparked a four-point run to pull within one point. After the score was tied seven different times the Big Blue scored the final two points with a kill from Hale and a service ace from Kaileigh Solis.
