Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University men's basketball took down Johnson C. Smith 93-91 on Wednesday. The Big Blue improve to 10-5 (3-2 CIAA) with the Golden Bulls falling to 7-7 (3-4 CIAA).
The Big Blue scored in the first eight seconds of play with a three from Jordan Hinds to take the early lead. Down by two at the 11:54 mark, a jumper from Larry Howell sparked a seven-point run to take the 27-22 lead. The Golden Bulls battled back to even the score at 42 with 1:38 left in the first. The Golden Bulls took the lead after a layup, but layup from Darius Boben with three seconds left took the Big Blue into the half with the 45-44 lead.
The Big Blue built a five-point lead after a layup from Ja'Mare Redus with 12:47 left in regulation. A trip to the line for the Golden Bulls tied it up at 88. A free throw from Travon Cooper with five seconds left gave the Big Blue the 93-91. The Golden Bulls attempted a three at the buzzer but couldn't overcome the Big Blue.
Aquino and Carter both came away with 18 points followed by Rell Williams with 15 points and eight assists and Boben with 15 points.
