Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University women's basketball took down Lincoln (PA) University 86-76. The Big Blue improve to 9-11 and picked up their second CIAA victory with the Lions falling to 9-12 (5-7 CIAA).
The Lions built a five-point lead midway through the first quarter, but the Big Blue answered with a three from Jayla Sample and a layup from Jasmine Jenkins to even the score at 11. The Lions took back the five-point lead, but Jamila Jenkins found Jasmine Jenkins for two to go into the second quarter down by three. The Lions extended their lead to six, but Azariah Binford hit back-to-back threes to tie it up at 27. The Lions scored the last eight points of the quarter to go into the half with the 37-29 advantage over the Big Blue.
Midway through the quarter, the Lions pushed their lead to nine with 5:10 left in the third. A layup from Azahrey Drayton-Gill sparked an eight-point run to pull within one of the Lions. Two free throws by Jayla Sample evened the score at 52. After a Lions layup, a three by Zaynah Robinson took the Big Blue into the fourth with the 55-54 lead. A late foul with 29 seconds left sent Azariah Binford to the line to give the Big Blue the three-point lead. A three by the Lions evened the score (67-67) to force overtime.
The Big Blue dominated in overtime, outscoring the Lions 19-9 to claim victory, 86-76.
Jayla Sample led all scorers with 21 points followed by Jasmine Jenkins with 19, Azariah Binford with 16 and Zaynah Robinson with 11. Azahreya Drayton-Gill secured the double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 points on the night.
