Ettrick, VA – Bluefield State University football fell at Virginia State 51-34 on Saturday. The Big Blue move to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
The Big Blue opened with a 74-yard touchdown after Brice Koontz and Julian Crawley connected just 17 minutes into play. The Trojans answered with three consecutive score to take the 21-7 lead going into the second.
Koontz connected with Brandon Wiley for a 9-yard touchdown and again with Crawley later in the quarter to cut into the Trojan deficit. Just before the half, Koontz added a 38-yard strike to Johnny Mathis Jr. to tie it up, 28-28.
The Trojans took control with a field goal and two fourth-quarter touchdowns to extend their lead. QB Keland Mills added a late 4-yard touchdown to Crawley, his third of the day.
Koontz threw 362 yards and four touchdowns, while Mills added 77 yards and a touchdown. Crawley finished with seven catches for 208 yards and three touchdowns, and Wiley added 106 yards and a touchdown.
