Frostburg, MD – Bluefield State University men's basketball dropped two at the Bobcat Classic, falling to Seton Hill 77-72 on Saturday and Shippensburg 79-60 on Sunday.
The Big Blue opened the weekend with a back-and-forth battle against Seton Hill that saw seven ties and six lead changes. Early threes from Ellija Preddy and Anthony Davenport helped the Big Blue establish an 8-5 advantage. Pharoah Lassiter and Sila Tako added key baskets and a corner three from Myles Pierre helped extend the Big Blue lead 34-27 into the half.
Seton Hill opened the second half with a strong push, but key drives from Davenport and Lassiter to reclaim the 49-46 lead at the 12-minute mark. Seton Hill responded to retake the lead, but Pierre connected deep and Anthony Latty scored inside to keep the Big Blue within on possession. Seton Hill sealed the win at the free throw line in the closing minutes.
The Big Blue were led by Anthony Davenport with 18 points, followed by Pierre with 14 points and seven rebounds. Latty added 10 points, three blocks and three steals, while Lassiter finished with 13.
On Sunday, the Big Blue returned to action against Shippensburg. The Big Blue used back-to-back threes from Tako and Davenport to cut into the 21-14 Shippensburg lead, but the Raiders took a 36-23 lead into halftime.
The Big Blue cut the deficit to eight after a three from Pierre five minutes into the second half, but the Raiders used a run midway through the half to maintain control down the stretch.
Pierre led the Big Blue with 17 points, Davenport added 13 with Boloti collecting a team-high eight rebounds.
