Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University men's basketball will travel to West Liberty, West Virginia, for the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Atlantic Region Champions March 15th – 18th. The Big Blue will take on the #1 seed, West Liberty University, on Saturday, March 15th at 6 p.m.
The Big Blue (#8) are entering the tournament with an impressive 19-11 record advancing to the CIAA Championship game before falling to Virginia State, 71-64. CIAA Player of the Year Jordan Hinds leads the Big Blue with a season total of 569 points and 186 rebounds. Rell Williams controls the boards for the Big Blue with 188 total rebounds on the year. Hinds, Williams, and Shainen Carter were each named to the All-CIAA tournament team at the conclusion of the CIAA tournament. West Liberty enters the tournament as the #1 seed in the Atlantic Region with a 27-4 record, previously beating the Big Blue by two points on November 9th.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for our program and for our players," said head coach Devin Hoehn. "This can be a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and we're going to do all we can to make the most of it. We want to do something that has never happened before in Bluefield State Basketball history: win a NCAA Playoff Game. It's going to be a difficult task to beat West Liberty, one of the most premier basketball programs in Division II, but our guys are ready for the challenge and to compete! All the pressure is on them, and we are going to play to the best of our abilities on Saturday and see where it takes us!"
