West Liberty, WV – Bluefield State University men's basketball fell to #1 West Liberty in the Quarterfinals of the Atlantic Region Division II NCAA Tournament 91-84.
The Hilltoppers took the early 8-3 lead, but a tip-in from Romeo Aquino and a three-point play from Rell Williams evened the score at eight. The Big Blue held the lead for the first time of the night at the 15:35 mark after a layup from Shainen Carter. Later in the quarter, down by one, the Big Blue took the six-point lead after a three from Larry Howell and back-to-back layups from Aquino and Darius Boben. The Hilltoppers took back the lead with 4:03 left and extended their lead to eight going into the half.
The Hilltoppers extended their lead to 18 coming out of the half. The Big Blue pulled within seven with seven minutes left in regulation. A three at the 2:15 mark pushed the Hilltopper lead back to 11. The Big Blue would get as close as six points in the final minute, but couldn't overcome the #1 Hilltoppers, falling 91-84.
Jordan Hinds led all scorers with 21 points and seven rebounds. Williams added 15 points and nine rebounds, with Larry Howell coming away with 15 and Carter and Travon Cooper II scoring 11 each.
