Salisbury, NC—Bluefield State University softball defeated Livingstone College in game one 11-5 but dropped game two 8-3 on Wednesday.
Game One 11-5 W:
The Big Blue got on the board early in the first after a bunt from Julianna Costanzo brought home Paige Whittington, who doubled to lead off the inning. The Blue Bears evened the score in the bottom of the inning, 1-1. The Big Blue took back the lead, scoring seven in the third. Taylor Fells and Whittington hit back-to-back singles to lead off the third. Jackie Sandy drew the walk to load the bases for the Big Blue. Costanzo singled to drive home two for the Big Blue. Natalie Quezada pushed the Big Blue lead to four after she brought home Sandy and Costanzo, 5-1. Maggie Mullin singled to bring home Quezada, followed by Ayers collecting the RBI to extend the Big Blue lead 7-1. Fells brought home the seventh run of the inning to push the Big Blue lead 8-1.
The Blue Bears cut the Big Blue deficit to five in the sixth, but the Big Blue added another in the top of the 7th to secure the 11-5 victory.
Taylor Fells earned the win in the circle for the Big Blue, giving up six hits, five runs, and struck out five.
Game Two 8-3 L:
The Blue Bears took the early lead, scoring one in the first and one in the third. The Big Blue tied it at two in the fourth, but the Blue Bears answered in the bottom of the inning to take back the lead 4-2. The Blue Bears extended their lead in the fifth, scoring four. The Big Blue added one in the seventh, but couldn't overcome the Blue Bears, 8-3.
Natalie Quezada took the loss in the circle, throwing 4.1 innings, giving up seven hits, eight runs, five walks, and struck out one.
