Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Ziyan Harris as the founding coordinator of the Golden Blaze Dance Company. A native of Dallas, Texas, Harris brings a dynamic blend of performance experience, artistic vision, and educational leadership to this new role.

Harris earned her Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Performing Arts, with a concentration in Dance, from Grambling State University. During her time at Grambling, she was a prominent member of the Orchesis Dance Company, where she performed and choreographed in a variety of campus and televised productions, including Taking The Stands. She also showcased her work in student showcases and major cultural events, and was crowned "Miss Eta Zeta" of the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, Eta Zeta Chapter.

Her academic achievements are equally impressive—she was named to both the Dean's and President's List, finishing her final semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

"I am honored to bring my passion and experience from Dallas, Texas, to serve as the new dance coach," said Head Coach Ziyan Harris. "Grateful to be a part of this incredible university — a true home away from home."

Trained in modern, contemporary, ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, and HBCU-style field performance, Harris has worked with dancers ranging in age from 3 to 18 in both school and studio settings. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes technical growth, creative expression, discipline, confidence, and sisterhood—values she brings to her work at Bluefield State.
