Big Blue Pick Up First Victory Over Chowan

Glenville, WV – Bluefield State University volleyball fell to West Virginia Wesleyan College, 3-0, and Glenville State University 3-0 in day one of the GSU Tournament.

After falling in set one 25-12, the Big Blue bounced back even the score 13-13 in set two after a kill from Nnea Williams. WVWC pulled away by three, but a kill from Soniya Garner and an error by the Bobcats pulled the Big Blue within one. A kill later in the set from Dynasty Andrews pulled the Big Blue within one, 21-20, but the Bobcats scored the next four to take the set 25-20.

The Big Blue were led by Dynasty Andrews with seven kills with Soniya Garner adding 13 digs and two blocks.

After a Glenville State error late in game two, Kaileigh Solis pulled the Big Blue within one (23-22) with three consecutive ace serves. The Pioneers answered with back-to-back blocks to take the set. The Pioneers took set three 25-13. Dazzalon Larkins led the Big Blue with nine kills with Gabrielle Hale adding 15 assists and Maya Morales with 15 digs.

The Big Blue got on the board first in game three against Carson Newman, after an error and two kills from Garner. The Eagles evened the score, but a kill from Andrews pushed the Big Blue ahead. Down later in the set, a kill from Callesta Styles broke up the momentum, but the Eagles answered with four to take the set 25-16. Down 10-5 midway through set two, the Big Blue scored four consecutive points to pull within one, but the Eagles came away with set two 25-17. The Big Blue took the lead in set three after a six-point rally, 18-12. Later in the set, the Eagles scored the final four points to take the match over the Big Blue.

The Big Blue bounced back in game four of the weekend, taking down Chowan in three sets. The Big Blue took the 19-18 lead after a kill from Williams. After Chowan tied it up at 24, the Big Blue closed out the set with two back-to-back points to take the set 26-24.

The Big Blue jumped out to an early lead in set two and extended their lead after a kill from Allyson Martin sparked a six-point rally, 20-11. Chowan broke up the Big Blue scoring attack, but the Big Blue answered to take the set 25-14.

Midway through set three, the Big Blue used a Chowan error to start a five point run to extend their lead 15-8. The Big Blue went on a run late in the set to push the score 24-11, with the match point coming from a Chowan error.
