Charlotte, NC - Bluefield State University women's basketball secured the 66-64 victory over Johnson C. Smith. The Big Blue improve to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Big Blue jumped out to a strong start, outscoring the Golden Bulls 22-15 in the opening quarter. The Big Blue utilized efficient shooting early, connecting on five threes in the first quarter to build an early cushion. Despite a low scoring second frame, the Big Blue carried the 33-28 advantage into the half.
The Golden Bulls pulled within one at the three minute mark in the third quarter, but a 10-3 run by the Big Blue took them into the final quarter with the 57-48 lead. The Golden Bulls attempted the late rally in the fourth, but couldn't overcome the Big Blue. The Big Blue forced 28 turnovers on the night and converted them into 26 points.
Jasmine Jenkins and Jayla Sample led the Big Blue with 16 points each. Jenkins added four rebounds, four steals and two assists while Sample contributed three steals and two rebounds. Jhakia Gist provided a major spark with 13 points, including three threes.
