Petersburg, VA – Bluefield State University women's basketball held off a late offensive push from Virginia State to secure the 91-87 victory. The Big Blue improve to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in CIAA play.
The matchup featured six lead changes and three ties in the back-and-forth contest. After a tight first half that took the Big Blue into the half trailing 37-34, the Big Blue offense hit another gear in the third for 34 points to take the 13-point lead into the final quarter. Despite a 32-point fourth quarter from the Trojans, the Big Blue held firm in the final minutes to secure the 91-87 win.
The Big Blue defense recorded 24 steals and forced 36 Trojan turnovers, turning those mistakes into 41 points off turnovers.
Michelle McGee and Jasmine Jenkins led the scoring effort for the Big Blue with 19 points each. Jenkins secured the double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds. Jhakia Gist and Leniyah Fulsom both reach double figures with 13 points apiece.
