Raleigh, NC – Bluefield State University women's soccer team earned a 2-1 road victory over Shaw University on Wednesday afternoon at WRAL Soccer Park. Iyana Campbell led the Big Blue with two first-half goals to secure the win.
Bluefield State struck first in the 18th minute when Campbell converted a penalty kick to give the Big Blue a 1-0 advantage. Shaw responded in the 29th minute as the Bears found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.
The Big Blue quickly answered in the 37th minute when Campbell scored her second goal of the match, putting Bluefield State back in front 2-1 heading into halftime.
In the second half, Bluefield State's defense held strong to save the one-goal lead. Goalkeeper Natasha Jaramillo played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves in the victory.
Campbell finished with four shots, all on goal, while Bluefield State recorded seven total shots and four corner kicks. Shaw finished with eight shots and eight corner kicks.
With the victory, Bluefield State improves to 3-4-2 overall.
