Harrogate, TN- Bluefield State University softball fell to Tiffin University 8-0 and Wayne State University 10-6 on day one of the LMU Invitational. Day two was cancelled due to the weather.
Game One vs. Tiffin – 8-0 L
In the opening game, the Big Blue were held scoreless by Tiffin. Despite the loss, Paige Whittington provided a spark at the top of the lineup, going 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Janessah Nappi and Sydney Leadbetter each came away with one hit.
Taylor Fells collected the loss in the circle, pitching 4 innings giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs while striking out two.
Game Two vs. Wayne State – 10-6 L
The Big Blue offense found its rhythm in game two, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jackie Sandy got the scoring started with an RBI single that brought home Whittington, who led off the inning with a double. Wayne State responded with two in the bottom of the first, but the Big Blue answered with a double from Mikaylah Chomara, who later scored on a passed ball to push the lead 4-2 in the top of the second.
Wayne State plated three runs in the bottom of the second and extended their lead with five runs in the third, 10-4. The Big Blue attempted a late rally in the sixth, using a Leadbetter triple to drive in two runs to pull within four, but could not get any closer.
Fells earned the loss, throwing three innings, giving up six hits and six earned runs while striking out two.
