Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University women's basketball fell short against Bowie State 78-73. The Big Blue move to 12-9 overall and 6-6 in CIAA play.
The Big Blue established an early lead, outscoring the Bulldogs 23-14 in the first quarter, but a 27-point second quarter from the Bulldogs into the half with the 41-39 lead over the Big Blue. Neither team could pull away in the second half that featured eight ties and eight lead changes, but the Bulldogs' efficiency at the line in the final minute pushed the Bulldogs ahead 78-73.
The Big Blue dominated the glass, outrebounding Bowie State 47-34, including 24 offensive boards that lead to 24 second chance points.
Jasmine Jenkins led all players with 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Tianna Rhodes provided a spark off the bench with 14 points on perfect 5-of-5 shooting, while Azahreya Drayton-Gill contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
