Ettrick, VA – Bluefield State University baseball split a road double header against Virginia State on Saturday. The Big Blue fell in game one 5-4 and bounced back to take the 1-0 victory in game two.
Game One – 5-4 L
The Big Blue held a late lead, but two Trojan runs in the seventh took down the Big Blue. The Big Blue jumped ahead with two runs in the third and two in the fourth to hold the 4-3 lead. Nate Rollins led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Kevin Rodgriguez added a hit and scored a run, while James Germosen went 3-for-2 and contributed an RBI.
Grayson Peel took the loss on the mound for the Big Blue, throwing six innings allowing seven hits, five runs, two walks while striking out five.
Game Two – 1-0 W
The lone run of the game came in the top of the third after Rollins delivered a clutch RBI double to bring home David Rodriguez, who doubled to lead off the inning.
Jaedin Guerra earned the win for the Big Blue throwing six innings, allowing only two hits, three walks while striking out two. Alex Compton collected the save, throwing one inning allowing one hit while striking out two.
