Greenville, TN – Bluefield State University softball made program history after taking down Tusculum University in game two for the first time. The Big Blue fell to the Pioneers in game one 6-1 but bounced back to take game two 6-2.
Game One – 6-1 L
The Pioneers scored two in both the first and second innings to take the early lead. Skyy Hicks led off the fourth with a walk and was later brought home by a double from Sydney Leadbetter to put the Big Blue on the board. The Pioneers added two in the bottom of the fourth and held firm to take down the Big Blue 6-1.
Yonah Rogers led the Big Blue with three of the eight total hits. Sydney Leadbetter finished 2-for-3, both doubles, with one RBI. Skyy Hicks, Mikaylah Chimara, and Jackie Sandy each collected one hit.
Jackie Sandy took the loss on the mound, throwing four innings allowing 10 hits, six runs and three walks.
Game Two – 6-2 W
The Big Blue bounced back to take down Tusculum in program history in game two 6-2. The Big Blue got on the board first after back-to-back singles from Paige Whittington and Julianna Costanzo in the third. The Pioneers tied it in the fourth, but the Big Blue answered with two in the fifth to take back the lead. The Pioneers added one in the fifth but the Big Blue sealed the 6-2 victory after scoring three in the seventh.
Paige Whittington led the Big Blue going 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs and a stolen base. Julianna Costanzo finished with three RBIs on two hits. Yonah Rogers earned the complete game victory, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out one.
