Ettrick, VA – Bluefield State University softball split a road double header against Virginia State. The Big Blue took game one 6-1 before falling 11-2 in game two.
Game One – 6-1 W
After two scoreless frames, the Big Blue got on the board in the third after Paige Whittington singled and was driven in by RBI single from Janessah Nappi. The Big Blue took control in the fifth, plating four runs. Whittington sparked the rally with an RBI double, followed by an RBI double from Sydney Leadbetter. Alexis Coles capped the inning with an RBI single to extend the lead 5-0. Leadbetter added more insurance in the sixth with an RBI single.
Yonah Rogers earned the win, throwing the complete-game, allowing only one run on nine hits while striking out two.
Game Two – 11-2 L
The Big Blue opened game two, bringing home one but the Trojans quickly answered in the bottom of the inning with two to take the lead and three in the fourth to take control. The Big Blue cut the deficit to three in the fourth, but the Trojans surged for six runs in the fifth to secure the 11-2 victory over the Big Blue.
Jackie Sandy took the loss in the circle, throwing 3.1 innings allowing five runs on seven hits.
