Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University baseball attempted to rally late, but fell short to West Virginia State 15-13.
The Big Blue took the early lead, after a homerun from Anderson Moreno sparked a five run first inning. The Yellow Jackets answered in the second with two to take the lead. Nick Diaz evened the score in the third with a two RBI single to left field. The Yellow Jackets adding two in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the third to take the 15-7 lead. Kevin Rodriguez added one for the Big Blue in the seventh with a home run to left field, and two more in the eighth. The Big Blue rally fell short in the ninth, after adding two to pull within two, 15-13.
Anderson Moreno and Edwin Hernandez led the Big Blue with three hits each, with Moreno and Nick Diaz coming away with four RBIs apiece. Hernandez and Nate Rollins added two stolen bases each. Joshua Kapp took the loss on the mound for the Big Blue, throwing 1.1 innings, allowing four hits, two runs while striking out one.
