Big Blue Take Weekend Sweep Against Virginia State

Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University baseball picked up four wins against Virginia State. The Big Blue improve to 12-13 on the year.

Game One – 11-2 W

After both teams went scoreless through the first two innings, the Big Blue took the lead after adding one in the third off of a Trojan error. The Big Blue pulled away, adding six in the fourth. The Trojans got on the board in the fifth after adding two, but the Big Blue sealed the win with three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Carson Allison led the Big Blue with three RBIs and two hits. Jack Sams earned the win on the mound, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing five hits, two runs while striking out two.

Game Two – 14-4 W

The Big Blue offense continued to dominate, bringing home four in the first. The Trojans pulled within one in the third, but the Big Blue added three in the third to pull away. The highlight of the night was a seven run fifth inning including six hits for the Big Blue to secure the 14-4 win.

Nate Rollins and Edwin Hernandez finished with three RBIs and two hits each. Benny Fiens took the win on the mound, throwing 5 innings, allowing six hits, four runs while striking out four.

Game Three – 12-5 W

A leadoff double from Rollins sparked a eight run first inning for the Big Blue to take the early lead. The Trojans put two on the board in the second, but the Big Blue quickly answered in the bottom of the inning, 12-2. The Trojans managed to add three through the rest of the frames but couldn't overcome the deficit set by the Big Blue, 12-5.

Allison and Nick Diaz both came away with three hits, two RBIs and two runs. Jaxon Hatfield collected the win, throwing four innings allowing four hits, three runs, one walk while striking out four.

Game Four – 13-7 W

After a scoreless first inning, the Trojans scored three in the second to take the early lead. A bases loaded single to center by Blake Mckinney brought home two to put the Big Blue on the board followed by a double from Anderson Moreno down the line to put the Big Blue on top, 4-3. The Big Blue maintained control, scoring five in the third and four in the fourth. The Trojans attempted to rally in the seventh by adding four, but the Big Blue collected the final fly out to secure the 13-7 victory.

Mckinney finished with four hits and three RBIs with Diaz adding four RBIs on two hits. Logan Horner earned the win, throwing 1.2 innings giving up no hits.
