Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University Athletics has officially announced the promotion of Zach Helton to Assistant Athletic Director for Broadcasting.

Zach, who joined the Big Blue in October 2020 as the Director of Broadcasting, has been the driving force behind the development and growth of the Big Blue Sports Network.  

A proud Bluefield State graduate and former student-athlete, Helton brings an extensive background in sports media, boasting a portfolio of over 1,800 career play-by-play broadcasts. His hands-on approach and dedication have been instrumental in elevating the university's broadcasts.

Zach began his broadcasting career in 2012 in Charlotte, North Carolina, working with prominent outlets including ESPN Charlotte, WEND, and the Charlotte Knights. His career spanned coverage across Nebraska, New York, and Maryland before he returned to the Southern West Virginia/Southwest Virginia region to focus on local athletics.

In addition to his work at Bluefield State, Zach has provided postseason coverage for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the Virginia High School League (VHSL) State Championships. He also serves as the Sports Director at First Media Services and as the voice of the Appalachian League's Bluefield Ridge Runners.
