Winston-Salem, NC – Bluefield State University soccer dropped a road battle against Carolina University, falling 1-0 on Wednesday.
The Big Blue defense set the tone in the first half, turning away nine shots from the Bruins to keep the match scoreless going into the half. Goalkeeper Natasha Jaramillo made two first-half saves while Meleny Ballesteros had the lone shot for the Big Blue in the opening half.
The Bruins broke the deadlock in the 50th minute to take the lead 1-0. The Big Blue continued to fight back, generating three shots with two coming from Arianna DiMartino and one from Iyana Campbell, but couldn't overcome the Bruins. Jaramillo finished the night with five saves.
