Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University volleyball fell to Livingstone College in three sets, 21-25, 19-25 and 16-25 on Monday.
Danielle Robinson led the Big Blue offense with a team-high 14 kills while adding six digs. Callesta Styles contributed six kills with Tessa Heffner dishing out 11 assists and two ace serves. Mekenna Scott added 10 assists and two aces, and Kaileigh Solis anchored the defense with six digs. Syah Neal and Alexia Cunningham each recorded three blocks assists.
The Blue Bears jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the opening set, but the Big Blue used an ace from Scott and a kill by Londyn Sewer to spark a run that cut the deficit to 12-10. The Big Blue pulled within three points late in the set, but the Blue Bears held on to take set one 25-21.
In set two, Livingstone took the early advantage. The Big Blue used a late-set surge to close the gap, 22-15 behind an ace from Heffner during a five-point run. Later in the set, back-to-back kills from Robinson pulled the Big Blue within five 24-19, but a Blue Bear kill ended the comeback attempt, 25-19.
The third set featured four ties and a lead change as the Big Blue evened the score 7-7 following a kill from Robinson, but the Blue Bears responded with an 8-1 run to build a 15-8 cushion. The Big Blue continued to fight, using a block by Neal and Cunningham to make it 21-16 but the Blue Bears answered with four straight points to close out the set 25-16 and claim the victory.
