Bluefield State University head women’s basketball coach Paul Davis is pleased to announce the addition of Alyssa Moore as an assistant coach for the Lady Big Blue. Moore comes to the hill following a one-year stint as a graduate assistant coach at the University of South Carolina under Dawn Staley.
“Coach Moore is a rising star in the profession, “said Davis. “When searching for a candidate, Alyssa checked every box. She’s hungry, eager, and ready to contribute in any way that she can to ensure that each student-athlete reach their highest potential. With her first stop being at the University of South Carolina, Alyssa has laid a solid foundation that will be very beneficial to our program at Bluefield State University. I’m excited to add her experience, energy, and sharpness to the family.”
As a member of the Gamecocks staff, Moore was responsible for opponent scouting, administrative and coaching activities for official visits, assisting with developing practice preparations, analyzing, and cutting film, reviewing all student-athlete’s social media accounts, and assisting with guard development.
Last season, the Gamecocks posted a 36-1 overall record and finished 1st in the final net rankings. Coach Moore assisted in the development of a hand full of Gamecocks as four players were invited to attend the WNBA Draft. Aliyah Boston, a highly decorated player in Gamecock history was drafted No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2023 WNBA Draft.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Moore was a standout player for Kenwood Academy. Though Moore would miss her senior year campaign, she averaged 11.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 3.6 assists per game in her first three years and helped her Kenwood team to a perfect record in conference play as a junior and a 24-7 mark overall before coming up just short in the sectional semifinal.
After graduating from high school, Moore chose to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 2018 – 2019 Moore was named the Most Improved Player of the Year and in 2019 – 2020 she was named the Most Impactful Player of the Year. Coach Moore earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in School of Education in 2021. In 2023, she earned her Master’s Degree in School of Education. She’s currently finishing a second Master’s Degree at the University of South Carolina.
