Bluefield, Va.— The Bluefield State Women's Tennis team started off the 2015-16 season with an individual tournament at the Bluefield College Invitational in Bluefield, Va.

In Flight 'B' Singles, Junior Maria Hernandez took first place. She defeated Sabrina Sheikh (Salem) by default, defeated Rebecca Havens (BC) 8-3, and then in the final defeated MyKenzie Roach (BC) 8-2.

In Flight 'A' Singles, Junior Wendy Rudhu took home third place. She defeated Ashley Koehler (Salem) 8-4, lost to Gema Mendoza (BC) 2-8, and defeated her teammate Tafadzwa Mawisire 8-6. Gema Mendoza (BC) took first place in this event.

In Flight 'B' Doubles, Senior Marta Briales and Junior Maria Hernandez paired up and took first place. They had a bye in the first round, then defeated Wilkins/Armbrister (Salem) by default. In the final, they defeated Havens/Roach (BC) 8-6.

The Lady Blues will be participating in the HBCU Championships Sept. 17th-20th in Atlanta, GA.
