Big Blues Pick Up First Two Wins of the Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Salisbury, NC- The Big Blues pick up their first 2 wins of the season in dominating fashion, beating the Livingstone Blue Bears 11-0 & 11-1 both in 5 innings.

The offense was working today as the Ladies amassed 27 total hits between the two games. The ladies were also excellent on the base paths, stealing 19 times and only being caught once. The 22 run total over the two games was by far the most offense they have had all season as they have struggled at points making contact with the ball.

The first game started off slow for the Big Blues as the Blue Bears were able to keep BSC off the board. But when the Big Blues came up to bat in the second, they took advantage of the opportunities in front of them. Kiersten Phillips started things off by bunting for a single. Ashantii Darville followed that up by singling, then reaching 3b on an error by the Blue Bears pitcher. Later in the inning, Chelsea Duncan and Lyndsay Hatfield both reached and scored when Roseanne De Vries singled. De Vries night was not done as she ended up getting 2 more hits, stealing 2 bases and scoring a run herself.

Amanda Cokeley (1-6) took the mound for game one and pitched a gem of a game. Cokeley faced 21 batters and struck out 8 while only allowing 4 hits. Everything was going her way as she pitched a complete 5 inning shut-out game.

Game two was much of the same the Big Blues offensive and defense continued to show up to play. Chelsea Duncan, Shonte Cargill, Rosanne De Vries and Emily Day all contributed to the Big Blues runs during the game. De Vries was walked twice but still managed to get 3 RBIs for the game. Cargill and Duncan were also crucial on the base path, each being 6 runs. They also combined for 5 of the 9 steals in game 2.

Ashantii Darville was on mound for the Big Blues to start the game and pitched a very solid game, picking up her first win of the season. Darville pitched 4 innings, striking out an impressive 8 batters and only allowing 1 run on 3 hits. De Vries came on in relief and struck out 3 more to end the game.

Over all this wasd a great day for the Big Blues as they picked up their first 2 wins of the season. They will look to ride this momentum as they play at Virginia State on March 22nd at 3 & 5. Check back on our website of links to live stats and video for the game.
