Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Carey, NC- The Big Blues takes both games from Virginia State for their first 2 wins of the season. These neutral site games were very highly contested but the Big Blues were able to win 2-1 (11 innings) and 12-8.
The first game saw Jacob Muncy take the mound to start the game. Muncy pitched a gem of a game going 10 innings, by far the longest stint of any pitcher this season. Unfortunately for Muncy, Tanner Muovich took the win when he came on in relief for Muncy in the 11th. But Muncy deserves a lot of the credit as he pitched for a majority of the game. Muncy gave up 1 run on 6 hits in his 10 innings of work. The lone run came in the 4th inning but other than that, the Blues held Virginia State scoreless.
The Big Blues walk-off victory came in the 11th inning by some excellent small ball plays. Cole Blocker singled to start the inning. Then advanced to second on a SAC Bunt by Bubba Smith. Then with Blocker in scoring position, Crachad Liang singled to the outfield, which scored Blocker, and the Blues picked up their first win in a walk off.
Game 2 was a lot different from Game 1 as both teams' offenses came alive. Bluefield State scored 4 runs in 3 different innings to secure a 12-8 victory and take the sweep of Virginia State.
Ridge Sibold was on the mound for the Big Blues and pitched all 7 innings. For his time on the mound, he gave up 8 runs on 13 hits, only walking 2 batters.
