Big Blues Lose at Home

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Bluefield, VA- The Big Blues hosted their first 2 home games this season, playing at the City Parks. Unfortunately home field advantage was not on their side today as the team lost to Kentucky State by scores of 6-4 and 9-3.

Bluefield State's offense was really struggling through the early part of the game in the first game, getting no hit through 5 innings. But in the 6th, the Blues finally saw some offense. Chelsey and Chelsea were the stars of the inning, with Dobbs getting a single and Duncan getting a double to lead off the bottom half of the inning. Dobbs was able to score off Duncan's double when the left fielder bobbled the ball and could not get it in on time. Duncan scored one batter later when Cargill did a slap hit and the catcher through the ball over the first baseman's head. The 7th inning saw another run by the Big Blues, when Emily Day homered for the first time this season. But it was too little too late for the Big Blues, as they fell 6-4.

Game 2 was a little different for the Big Blues as they were able to jump on Kentucky State early in the 1st inning. The Big Blues scored 2 in the 1st, the first on some smart base running and the second on an error by the shortstop. The Big Blues only got 1 more run in the 4th inning as the Kentucky State pitcher really settled in as the game went on.

Rose De Vries took the mound for the Blues to start game 2 and she pitched wonderfully. De Vries ended up with 10 strikeouts on the day but it was all for not as there was some questionable defensive plays by the Blues allowing Kentucky State to stay alive in a couple different innings. A couple of times, the Blues could not convert on double plays and also committed 3 errors during the game. These simple mistakes did Bluefield State in as they lost 9-3.

The Ladies play again tomorrow against West Virginia Tech at 1:00 and 3:00 at the City Fields.
