Box Score 2 Charleston, WV- The Big Blues took a trip up to the capital for a midweek double header against the University of Charleston. The first game saw a great pitcher's duel with Charleston coming out on top 2-1. The second game on the other hand, was more of an offensive clinic with Charleston winning 21-0 in 5 innings.
Amanda Cokeley took the circle in game 1 and really kept the Big Blues competitive in the game. For the 6 innings of work she gave up 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 1. While none of those numbers really stick out, she was still able to control the game, getting ground balls to give her defense easy outs. But even with this help, her defense had some let downs again, giving up 5 errors, 2 of them leading to runs in the game.
The lone run for the Blues came in the 2nd inning when Chelsea Duncan drove in Emily Day.
Game 2 was a big letdown for how close game 1 was. Charleston put on an offensive clinic getting 21 runs on 25 hits. The ladies could not produce outs and so Charleston just kept producing hits including 2 homeruns in the game. Ashantii Darville started in the circle for the Big Blues and went 3 innings. Emily Day came on in the 4th for 1 innings worth of work but that was it as the game was called after 5 innings.
The Big Blues will play their final 2 home games of the season on Monday, April 18th at the City Park Softball Field. First pitches will be at 1:00 & 3:00! The seniors will be honored in this one so please come out and support the ladies in their final home games of the season!
