Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Bluefield, VA- The Big Blues played host to Salem International for this beginning of the week Double Header. Seniors Leandrea Armbrister, Amanda Cokeley and Rosanne De Vries were all honored today as it was their final home games for at Bluefield State. Unfortunately the ladies came up short in both games losing 7-2 and 21-1.
Amanda Cokeley started Game 1 in the circle pitching a complete game. Cokeley gave up 7 runs on 13 hits. While the numbers seem high, she did not get very much help behind her, as the Blues committed 5 errors, 2 of those directly caused 3 runs.
Lyndsay Hatfield led the offense for the ladies, breaking out of her recent slump. Hatfield had a double and drove in a run. One batter later she was driven in by Kiersten Phillips to give the Blues the only 2 runs of Game 1.
Game 2 was a struggle for the Big Blues to say the least. The Blues lost 21-1, giving up 14 runs in the 3rd inning. Salem International deserves credit as they kept driving the ball and taking advantage of the Big Blues pitchers missing their spots.
The lone bright spot for the game came in the 2nd inning when Leandrea Armbrister crushed the ball over the batting cages in center field, her first homerun of the season. This was a great souvenir to have on her Senior Day.
The Big Blues will be back in action on Wednesday on the road against Kentucky State. Check back on our website of updates on scores and stats!
