Box Score 2 Front Royal, VA- The Big Blues started their 4 game series against Lincoln University (PA) today in Front Royal, VA at Bing Crosbey Stadium. Both games were very high scoring with the teams having some defensive lapses to allow the offenses to get rolling. The teams split the games today with Lincoln winning the first game 17-12 and Bluefield State taking the second, 11-5.
Jacob Muncy took the mound for the Big Blues, going 5 innings, giving up 11 runs on 9 hits and 8 strikeouts. Muncy did not get much help behind him as the Big Blues committed 5 errors during the game. 2 of those errors came in the abysmal 6th inning for the Blues which saw the Lions score 8 runs and take control of the game.
Chaz Rutherford's homecoming to Bing Crosbey Stadium where he played high school ball is one he will not forget for a while. In the first game Rutherford hit the teams and his first homerun of the season. This capped off a 4 hit 1st game in which he got 4 RBIs. But even with Rutherford's effort the Blues came up short by a score of 17-12.
Game 2 was a complete turnaround from game 1. Rutherford again played extremely well offensively, hitting another home run and receiving 2 more RBIs. Bubba Smith got the start in Game 2 at 1st base and it paid off offensively as he got 3 hits and 4 RBIs in the 7 inning game.
On the mound for the Big Blues, Tanner Muovich picked up his 3rd win of the season going a complete game. Muovich had 119 pitches, the most he has ever had in one outing in his career but gave up 5 runs on 9 hits but stuck out 7 in the game. These impressive performances help the Blues take Game 2 11-5.
