BLUEFIELD, Virginia — The Bluefield State men's basketball team continued the winning streak in the "Battle of the Bluefields" with a 95-92 win over Bluefield University Thursday evening.
Freshman guard Jordan Hines led the Big Blue with 26 points with eight rebounds, while guard
Marquez Cooper added 23 with eight rebounds, and
Ryan Stowers had 10 with five rebounds. Bluefield State shot 44.3 percent from the field (39 of 88), while Bluefield University shot 45.3 percent (29 of 64).
The game won't count toward either team's record, though Bluefield State will remain with the trophy for now.
Meanwhile, After a timeout, with the game tied at 92-92, and 13 seconds to go. Cooper hit a jumper from the top of the key with an assist from
Hirotaka Ohashi, giving Bluefield State the lead 94-92. Being fouled in the process, Cooper completed an old fashion three to put the Big Blue up by three, 95-92 to clinch the victory.

Men's Basketball will travel to Fairmont, WV to compete in the Joe Retton Classic. Bluefield State will face Salem University November, 13 in the Joe Retton Arena. First Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
