CHARLOTTE, North Carolina - The Bluefield State women's basketball team dropped Saturday afternoon's road game to Johnson C. Smith in Brayboy Gymnasium, 81-57.
It was a tough loss against the Golden Bulls for the second time this season.
The Big Blue started strong.
After battling back and forth with the Golden Bulls throughout the first quarter, that saw leads of 12-13, 13-14, and ended the quarter on top, 17-14.
The second quarter belonged to the Golden Bulls. They outscored the Big Blue 28-11 and went into the locker room with a 14 point lead at 42-28.
The start of the second half didn't bring much of a change for the Big Blue when the Golden Bulls when on a 9-0 run leaving the Big Blue scoreless for the first five minutes.Â
But the Big Blue came alive after that with a layup from London Coleman at the 5:46 mark, 32-51.Â
The women refused to quit, however, they couldn't close the 20 point lead gap the Golden Bulls had since the third quarter.Â
Londen Coleman had a career-high of 22 points leading the Big Blue on 10-16 shooting. She added seven rebounds in 27 minutes.Â
Alexus Tucker also scored seven points, three rebounds, and three assists in 46 minutes.Â
Derricka Bramwell added six points and three rebounds in 12 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 24-58 for 41.4%.
They were 2-15 for 13.3% from the three-point line.
And 7-12 for 58.3% from the free-throw line.
They were outrebounded by the Golden Bulls 46-27.
