ELKINS, West Virginia — The Bluefield State women's basketball dropped to Davis & Elkins College Saturday afternoon on the road in the McDonnell Center, 61-58.
Derricka Bramwell led the Big Blue with a double-double. Bramwell had 19 points and 19 rebounds in 30 minutes.
Azariah Binford followed with 11 points on 3-12 shooting. Binford added four rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes.
Dani Janutolo added 10 points on 3-9 shooting in 32 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 21-61 for 34.4%.
They were 5-14 for 35.7% from the three-point line.
And 11-17 for 64.7% from the free-throw line.
They outrebounded the Senators 41-37.
The Big Blue came out strong, taking the first quarter, outscoring the Senators, 13-12.
The second quarter is where the Big Blue lost the game. The Senators outscored the Big Blue 18-5.
The Senators Marissa Berlin dominated the paint in the second half. 10 points came from down low in the second half.
The third quarter brought hope for the Big Blue. They outscored the Senators 18-16, however, at the end of the third, the Big Blue still trailed the Senators by 10, 46-36.
The Senators continued their lead at the beginning of the fourth. With three minutes to go in the fourth, the Big Blue cut the lead down by four when Katrina Davis made 1/2 free-throws, 55-51.
Peyton Mohler drained a three increasing the Senators lead to seven, 58-51. Berlin quickly got two in the paint to again increase the lead, 60-51.
Bramwell answered with her own layup with:53 left. Executing the press break Jade Goodloe got a steal. Davis squared up to the basket to knock down the three assisted by Binford, 60-56.
The Big Blue fought to the end, Bramwell completed a layup to score the last basket with one second left, 61-58.
The time ran out before the Big Blue could come with three points to tie it up and send it to overtime.
