RALEIGH, North Carolina - The Bluefield State men's basketball team lost to St. Augustine's University in Emery Gymnasium Saturday afternoon, 77-75.
It was a tough loss against the Falcons.
The Big Blue got off to a quick 5-0 start on a dunk by Landry Palata and a three-pointer by Palata as well.
The Falcons took the lead with a three-pointer by Brian Keith Jr. at the 15-minute mark. The Big Blue quickly tied the game back up at the 13-minute mark with a three-pointer by Julio Pascual.Â
The game see-sawed for the next three minutes when a jumper by Kesean Robinson put the Big Blue on top 25-24. cut Concord's lead to 24-21 with 10:00 remaining.
The Big Blue then went on a run that kept their lead for the remainder of the half.Â
Up 42-38 at the half, the Big Blue didn't let up to begin the second half. Continuing their lead, a Jumper by the Falcons Sean Tony tied it up 50-50 at the 15-minute mark.Â
After another jumper by Tony, the Falcons took the lead for about 8 minutes. A fast break and a layup in the paint by Palata tied it up, 65-65 at the 5-minute mark.Â
After the Big Blue led for about four minutes the Falcons again tied it up, 73-73 with 1:23 remaining. Â
The Falcons quickly went back up but the Big Blue answered to tie the game up 75-75 with:22 remaining.Â
A Falcon turnover gave the Big Blue the ball with:19 left. Hirotaka Ohashi missed the layup and the Falcons Christopher Hill rebounded the ball with:05 remaining.Â
A last-minute layup by Keith Jr. sealed the game for the Falcons.Â
Jordan Hines led the team with 18 points on 6-12 shooting. He added three rebounds and two steals in 33 minutes.
Palata also led with 17 points. He added four rebounds in 33 minutes.Â
Robinson added double-digit points on 3-4 three-pointers, scoring 11 in nine minutes.
Pascual also hit double-digits with 10 points. He also added three rebounds.Â
Ohashi led the team with six assists. He scored 11 points in 35 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 25-51 for 49%. They were 11-22 for 50% from the three-point line.
The team was also 14 of 23 on free throws.
They were outrebounded 32-30.
