BLUEFIELD - The Bluefield women's tennis team traveled to Lincoln Memorial to play a triad of matches over the weekend.
The team stood tall but ultimately fell in the face of some very tough competition. In the first match against the number 14 NAIA nationally-ranked Bulldogs from Union College, the Big Blue fell in a hard-fought 4-3 loss.
Bluefield State got down early losing the doubles point. They fought back with singles wins by Shreya Chakraborty,
Laura Arias, and
Virginia Zanotti but still came up short.
Bluefield State played Atlantic Region power Charleston in the second match. They played hard losing 6-1 only managing to get wins by Shreya Chakraborty and
Juliana Jimenez in doubles and Chakraborty again in singles.
The ladies hope to fair better when they play Charleston again at home on Friday, March 26. In the last match, a weary Bluefield State team would not quit but lost 5-2 to the number 21 NAIA nationally ranked University of the Cumberlands Patriots. Freshman
Juliana Jimenez and Alabama State transfer Vicky Cabral secured wins in singles in the loss.
