Box Score 2 BLUEFIELD - The Bluefield State softball team hosted Bluefield College in their season opener falling short in Saturday's double-header. 18-7 for the second game.
The Big Blue struggled to put runs on the board while Madison Thompson battled at the mound followed by freshman Kylie Nelson relieving.
In-game 1 the Big Blue runs were scored on a home run from senior Jessi Foster. Followed by back-to-back home runs from junior Ashlee Brassart. The Big Blue fell, 3-12 to the Rams in five innings.
Game 2
The Big Blue came back swinging but left bases loaded a couple of times. Pitcher Ashlee Brassart yet blasted a grand slam to bring in 4 of the 7 runs scored.
The Big Blue had five errors which allowed Bluefield College to score a total of 18 runs. Wrapping up the game into five innings, 7-18.

The season will continue Sunday, March 14 against Mars Hill. The Big Blue will host the Mountain Lions in s doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at Bluefield High school.
