Box Score BLUEFIELD - Bluefield State's offense came alive Saturday at Bowen Field, but it wasn't enough as the Carolina University Bruins outslugged the Big Blue, 15-9. The Bruins earned a bit of revenge after dropping a doubleheader at home two weeks earlier.
The Bruins opened the scoring in the first inning. The Big Blue battled back evening the score at four in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by Taylor Tibbs' run-scoring double.
Carolina scored three in the fifth. But Bluefield came back with three more in the sixth thanks to RBI singles from Tanner Brandon, Kevin Moxey and Roman Moore.
The Bruins took the lead for good with six runs in (WHAT INNING? SEVENTH?)
Austin Stambaugh started for the Big Blue, lasting four and a third innings, giving up seven runs on eleven hits. He also struck out six and walked one. Kenrick Mendez, Howie Spencer and Daniel Rayfield followed in the relief.
With the loss, the Big Blue fall to 7-7 on the season.
