Box Score 2 BLUEFIELD - A tough season continued for Bluefield State's women's softball team Wednesday. They dropped a doubleheader to Concord University in Athens, 14-1 and 9-1. Both games were called after five innings.
In Game 1, the Mountain Lions started fast scoring five runs on two hits in the first. Three runs crossed on wild pitches from freshman starter Kennedy James. She was relieved by Madison Thompson who surrendered two more before getting out of the inning.
The Lions scored five again in the second when Thompson was relieved by Kylie Nelson.
Ashley Brassert pitched the fourth, and last, inning.
Lions pitcher Tori Hanes held the Big Blue to three hits and one unearned run, pitching a complete game. Savannah Mullins scored for the Big Blue in the third.
In Game 2, the Big Blue held the Mountain Lions scoreless until the third inning when they scored three. Brassert started for the Big Blue, giving up six runs in three and two-thirds innings. They added six in the fourth to put the game away against Brassert and reliever Jessi Foster.
The Blues' only run came on a home run by Foster in the fourth.
