BLUEFIELD - The Bluefield State Women' Tennis Team hosted their first home match on a brisk Saturday afternoon.

 

The Big Blue took on the Cavaliers from UVA-Wise. The weather was cold but the Bluefield State started hot taking the doubles point with an emphatic 6-0 win Shreya Chakraborty and Juliana Jimenez over the dynamic duo sisters Katie and Liza Akimenko, who were previously undefeated in doubles for the season.

 

The Akimenko sisters bounced back in singles to edge out Chakraborty and Jimenez at the numbers 1 and number 2 positions in third-set tiebreakers, respectfully, but the ladies from Bluefield State were too tough down the line as they collected wins by Virginia Zanotti, Laura Arias, and Victoria Cabral on their way to a 5-2 victory.
