BRISTOL, Tennessee - The Bluefield State men's basketball team remains winless on the road after a tough loss to King University in a mid-week match-up Wednesday evening in the Student Center Complex, 96-91.
Marquez Cooper led the Big Blue with a season-high of 28 points on 11-17 shooting. Cooper added five rebounds in 35 minutes.Â
Ryan Stowers also led the Big Blue with a career-high of 28 points on 11-15 shooting in 32 minutes.Â
Hirotaka Ohashi added 10 points on 4-10 shooting. Ohashi also added three steals and two rebounds in 38 minutes. Â
Overall, the team shot 36-78 for 46.2%.
They were 2-7 for 28.6% from the three-point line.
And 17-22 for 77.3% from the free-throw line.
They were outrebounded by the Tornado 28-21.
The Big Blue went on an 8-0 run in the first three minutes. After a turnover by Isaiah Curry, the Tornado subbed in a fresh five at the 16-minute mark.Â
The Big Blue maintained their lead for most of the first half. A layup from the Tornado Blake Atwood tied the game up 20-20 at the 9-minute mark.Â
Curry then put up a layup for the Tornado to take their first lead at the 8-minute mark. Â
The Big Blue trailed the Tornado for the remainder of the first half. Â
At the start of the second half, the Big Blue went on a scoring drought for about the first three minutes. The Tornado extended their lead by 14 until Khamaury McMillan went one for two at the free-throw line to give the Big Blue their first point of the second half.Â
The Big Blue cut down the Tornado lead to three down the stretch after a dunk from McMillan at the 11-minute mark.Â
The Big Blue regained the lead at the 10-minute mark with a layup by Cooper, 72-71. The Tornado quickly went back up with a jumper by Brandon Lamberth, 73-72.
The Big Blue battled back in forth with Tornado but never regained a lead.Â
The Big Blue managed 37 points off the bench with only two subs versus the 50 bench points from the Tornado's seven subs.
