WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Bluefield State men's basketball team defeated Central State University in their last road game of the season in Beacom and Lewis Gym, 110-90.
The Big Blue will host Salem University on Senior Day. Feb. 26. Tipoff is set at 4:00 p.m.
The Big Blue and the Marauders went back and forth with the lead throughout the beginning of the first half. The game was tied at 19 at the 13-minute mark.
Desmond Freeman drained a three to put the Big Blue up, 22-19 with 12:12 to go in the first half.
The Big Blue went up by 10 at the five-minute mark after
Marquez Cooper went 1/2 from the free-throw line.
Antoine Nunnally fouled with:20 to go before halftime.
Brad Lewis made 1/2 free throws to put the Marauders within six at halftime.
Cooper continued to add to the Big Blue lead at the beginning of the second half with an old fashion three, 57-48. The Big Blue never let up. Freeman completed a three to put the Big Blue up by 20 with 15:18 to go.
The Big Blue never let the Marauders back within under 10 and held a lead as big as 22 in the second half.
Marquez Cooper led with 33 points on 14-26 shooting. Cooper added five rebounds in 32 minutes.
Jordan Hinds followed with 18 points 8-11 shooting. Hinds added five rebounds in 17 minutes.
Desmond Freeman added 14 points on 5-9 shooting. Freeman added seven rebounds in 26 minutes.
Hirotaka Ohashi added 10 points and four assists in 30 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 41-83 for 49.4%.
They were 7-20 for 35.0% from the three-point line.
The team was also 12 of 17 on free throws.
The Marauders outrebounded the Big Blue 39-38.
