WILBERFORCE, Ohio — The Bluefield State women's basketball topped Central State University in a midweek match-up Wednesday evening in their last road game of the season in Beacom and Lewis Gym, 70-61.
Alexis Tucker led the Big Blue with 21 points on 6-14 shooting. Tucker added two rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes.
Londen Coleman came off the bench with 15 points on 5-9 shooting. Coleman added six rebounds in 24 minutes.
Azariah Binford added 10 points, six rebounds, and four steals in 40 minutes.
Katrina Davis missed a double-double by one with nine points and nine rebounds.
Gabrielle Thomas dominated in boards tonight with 13 rebounds in 30 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 22-58 for 37.9%.
They were 10-23 for 43.5% from the three-point line.
And 16-23 for 69.6% from the free-throw line.
The Big Blue fouled early sending the Marauders to the line for two. Dashanti Miller went 2/2 at the line giving the Marauders an early lead, 2-0.
Alexus Tucker quickly answered with a three-pointer to put the Big Blue up by one, 3-2. The Marauders quickly took back the lead with a layup by Luarene Tere.
The Big Blue would work tirelessly for the next four minutes to take back the lead. An old fashion three by Londen Coleman would put the Big Blue back up by one, 12-11 with 1:54 left in the first quarter.
The Big Blue held on to a one-point lead to finish the first quarter, 14-13.
Cathryn Jones hit a jumper to start the second quarter putting the Marauders up by one, 15-14. Autumn Spangler answered with a three from the corner, giving the Big Blue the lead once again, 17-15.
The Big Blue never let up the remainder of the second quarter, going up by 10 at halftime, 35-25.
Thomas extended the Big Blue lead by 12 at the start of the third quarter with a layup in the paint, 37-25. The Marauders got within seven at the 8-minute mark with two good free throws by Jones, 42-35. Dani Janutolo completed a layup in the paint to put the Big Blue back up by 11 with 4:07 to go.
The Big Blue would hold on to their double-digit for the remainder of the third quarter.
The Marauders cut the Big Blue lead by nine to start the fourth quarter with a layup in the paint by Jones. The Big Blue remained scoreless and allowed the Marauders to tie it up at the 5-minute mark, 57-57.
Coleman added two and put the Big Blue back up, 59-57. Layla Turner quickly tied it back up with a layup in the paint. Coleman completed a layup on the other end, giving the Big Blue the lead once again.
Katrina Davis added three more, extending the Big Blue lead by five with 3:42 to go. Binford secured the win for the Big Blue with two good free throws with:03 left.
