Softball Drops on The Road to Charleston

CHARLESTON, West Virginia -- The Bluefield State softball team dropped to The University of Charleston in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at UC Softball Field.

Game 1:

Bluefield State hit one home run in the game. 

The Golden Eagles started things off in the top of the first with Allysa Lake hitting a single up the middle for a two RBI. Emma Groe and Mikayla Ferguson scored two more in the first with a single two RBI by Brionna Bowman. 

The Golden Eagles added three more in the second. Groe struck out but reached first on a throwing error. Gracie Donato reached home plate. Kaylee Hotchkiss hit a double for a two RBI. 

The Big Blue struck in the third inning when Emma Crawford homered to centerfield. 

Kennedy James (0-2) took the loss for Bluefield State. She gave up four runs -- on one hit in 2.0 inning of work. 

Hannah Rose doubled for an RBI to add one in the fourth. The Golden Eagles added their final in the fourth with a single RBI by Allison Rubal. 

Game 2: 

The Big Blue closed out Friday with an 18-2 loss in game 2 of the doubleheader.

The Golden Eagles struck first again with a wild pitch by Kylie Salazar and Kendal Marshall scored. The Big Blue got down in the bottom of the second. 

The Golden Eagles added 17 runs in the bottom of the second. The Big Blue had to change pitchers twice in order to get out the inning. 

The Big Blue added their first run in the top of the third. Caila Cooksey singled for a single RBI. Hannah Fisher scored for the Big Blue. 

Hannah Fisher scored the second and final run for the Big Blue in the top of the fifth when Maurincia Demmings doubled for a single RBI. 

Bluefield State dropped to 2-11, with the losses. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-8.

The Big Blue will host Shaw University in a doubleheader. Thursday, Mar. 17. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
