Softball Falls on The Road to Winston-Salem State

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina -- The Bluefield State softball team dropped to Winston-Salem State University in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Twin City Ballfields Complex.

Game 1:

The Big Blue struck first in the top of the first with an RBI single from Emma Crawford and Kennedy Warbritton crossed home plate. The Rams answered with two at the bottom of the first. Malia Simmons doubled to center field for an RBI, bringing in SeQuoia Wingfield. 

Kendall Hudson hit an RBI single to put the Rams up 2-0 over the Big Blue. The Rams added three more in the second and fourth innings. 

Madison Thompson (1-5) took the loss for Bluefield State. She gave up eight runs -- off of eleven hits in 3.1 innings of work. 

Wingfield walked to bring in Makayla Brown to give the Rams their final run of the game. 

Game 2: 

The Big Blue closed out Friday with a 9-1 loss in game 2 of the doubleheader.

Alleshia Pullen started things off for the Rams by scoring the first run on a wild pitch by Kylie Salazar. Malia Simmons also scored in the bottom of the first off a wild pitch by Salazar. 

The Rams added six runs in the bottom of the second.

The Big Blue added their first run in the top of the third. Hannah Fisher scored an unearned run and Zamiah McMillian reached first base off a throwing error from right field. 

Bluefield State dropped to 2-13, with the losses. The Rams improved to 3-5.

The Big Blue will host Emory and Henry in a doubleheader. Sunday, Mar. 20. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
