Softball Drops Sunday Doubleheader to Emory and Henry

BLUEFIELD -- The Bluefield State softball team fell to Emory and Henry College in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Graham Rec. Field.

Game 1:

Bluefield State hit one home run in the game. 

Emma Crawford homered to left field for a two-RBI in the bottom of the first to allow the Big Blue to take the lead over the Wasps, 2-1. 

The Wasps added six in the second which included a home run two-RBI by Lydia Taylor, 7-2. Anna Thomas joined in on the home run action in the third with a home run three-RBI, 11-2. 

Madison Thompson (1-6) took the loss for Bluefield State. She gave up 17 runs -- off of 14 hits in 4.2 innings of work. 

The Big Blue defense held the Wasps from adding any runs in the fourth. The Wasps added their final six runs in the fifth, which included three double-RBIs. 

Game 2: 

The Big Blue closed out Sunday with a 15-0 loss in game 2 of the doubleheader.

Lydia Taylor started things off for the Wasps in the first with a single to center field for an RBI. The Big Blue defense managed to keep the Wasps scoreless in the second. The Wasps then came and added four in the third. 

Kendall Varn homered to left field for an RBI to start the top of the fourth. The Wasps added five total in the fourth including another hone run two-RBI by Allyson Stea. The Wasps added their final five in the fifth. 

Bluefield State dropped to 2-15, with the losses. The Wasps improved to 17-10.

The Big Blue will host Alderson Broaddus in a doubleheader. Tuesday, Mar. 22. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
