BLUEFIELD -- The Bluefield State softball team dropped to Alderson Broaddus University in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Graham Rec. Field.
Game 1:
Calla Cooksey recorded her first collegiate home run Tuesday afternoon.
Cooksey homered to left field for an RBI in the bottom of the third to give the Big Blue their first run.
The Rattlers added five in the fourth. Caitlin Wilkins doubled to center field for a two-RBI. Tori Bache followed with a single up the middle for another two-RBI.
Madison Thompson (1-7) took the loss for Bluefield State. She gave up seven runs -- off of seven hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Cassidy Chri homered to right field for a three-RBI giving the Rattlers their last of the game. The Big Blue defense held the Rattlers in the fifth from scoring.
Game 2:
The Big Blue closed out Tuesday with a 12-3 loss in game 2 of the doubleheader.
Neveah Unzue started things off for the Rattlers in the first with a double to left-center for an RBI. Grace Sobeck added three more for the Rattlers with a home run three-RBI.
The Rattlers added three more in the third.
Emma Crawford singled to center field and Cala Cooksey advanced to home plate on a fielding error.
The Rattlers added their last three in the fifth. Riley Vunak singled up the middle for two-RBI. Meadow Uncap singled up the right-center, and Caitlin Wink reached home plate unearned.
The Big Blue tried to fight back in the fifth to stay alive. Hannah Fisher advanced to home on a wild pitch, 12-2. Cooksey sacrificed for an RBI bringing in Kailey Sarver.
Bluefield State dropped to 2-17, with the losses. The Rattlers improved to 8-12.
